I’ve been troubled that our society values “success” over “greatness.” Success is selfish. Greatness matters.

So, I was talking to Suz about Band today; and how we both really love it because it’s so satisfying to hit the right note and the right time, and have created a beautiful sound that helps to express what you feel inside your soul.
And yes; that was a huge part of the reason I loved band - the music is phenomenal. But, the other reason I loved it was because of the teamwork. So many people all working in synchrony to create something beautiful… and being a part of that team was awesome. But, now I’ve had the chance to be on a few other teams, and I think I realized that what I loved most about band was being on the team. It was my first real team. But I really, really love teamwork. Not to be confused with group projects, but teamwork.
For so long, I thought I preferred working alone… but no. Life is more fun when you’re part of an amazingly awesome team. Synergy for the win!

I have literally been in a daze since I’ve been home. Everyday, I sit down and I’m like, “if I was in Orlando right now, I’d be doing (fill in the blank)…my whole life is just comparing things to my [Epic/JTA/802] family or Orlando. Most of my days are spent talking about the Disney college program.

Salem on FB. True dat though.

There has to be a way to attain that level of happiness again; but more permanently.

Me. Too. Really badly. This suburban, normal life stuff is old already.
Orlando anyone?!

Guarded by sentries and high barriers from unsought contact with all beyond, great gangs of us, healthy, robust men, live and labor in a marvelous artificial world. No sight of misery disturbs us, nor of despairing poverty out in vain search for employment…. We work our eight hours a day in peaceful security and in absolute confidence of our pay.

Walter Wyckoff - Princeton Professor of Political Economy (1891) on the working and living conditions of the builders of the World Fair. Interestingly enough, if Devil in the White City is to be considered factual, this world fair labor force employed Elias Disney, who’s tales of this “marvelous artificial world” inspired his young son Walt.
